For the love of leather

The year is 1962: not far from the German border, in Klingnau in the canton of Aargau, master saddler Ernst Lüthy manufactures top-quality bespoke leather furniture − entirely by hand and with a passion for the finest leather.

Craftsmen at heart

Under the name "Stern Polster Klingnau", Ernst Lüthy and his team dedicate themselves to the processing of tanned bull hides − and continue to refine their craft. Their experience in the saddlery trade helps them to create furniture that not only impresses with its design, but also sets completely new standards in terms of ergonomics and comfort.

It's really getting started

In 1965, the family business became a public limited company and it was time for a new name. The name, which comes from Latin, says it all: de Sede literally means "from sitting". A clear commitment.
From this point on, the company developed rapidly; top designers of international stature were brought in to create, production was expanded and an international distribution network was established.

Call from Hollywood

In October 1968, filming of the movie "James Bond 007 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service" began in Switzerland. The futuristic revolving restaurant on the Schilthorn served as one of the main locations. It was there that de Sede made its first grandiose worldwide film appearance with the DS-101. Even today, de Sede furniture is a shooting star on film sets all over the world - and world-class stars like to surround themselves with our legendary sculptures.

Join us on a journey through time!

From the very beginning, de Sede has stood for the highest quality, ergonomics and design. Over the years, our passion for handcrafted seating has given rise to numerous icons and innovations. See for yourself!

And our story continues

Our eventful history is an incentive for us to remain true to ourselves in the future: we only develop furniture that we ourselves are 100 percent convinced of and that is unique in its own way. Our love of craftsmanship, materials and what we do is still deeply rooted in us. The constant search for the best result, the pursuit of mastery, spurs us on.
